Sides for Charlie & Lisa, Gemini Casting Call, April 15th, 2009, Downtown Lansing Library Auditorium

13. INT. LIVING ROOM –- MOMENTS LATER

Lisa scampers into the room, dragging Charlie along.

LISA
I think it’s up to us to finish
All the wine we didn’t get to tonight.

CHARLIE
Oh, really.

LISA
Well, we shouldn’t be wasteful.
Gotta save the planet and whatnot.

CHARLIE
Nothing good can come from this.

They plop on the couch with the wine. Lisa starts drinking away.

LISA
Oh, come on, you deserve a break.

CHARLIE
I don’t think I deserve anything
After tonight.

LISA
It wasn’t that bad. Actually, it was
the same as last Year. And the year
before. Except without the excuse
of the headaches.

CHARLIE
You’d think he’d trust me to be
Responsible.

LISA
Charlie, he knows you’re responsible.
He just rags on you about the pills
Because he’s scared. It’s an emotion,
And he’s allowed to have it. And you’re
Allowed to be angry and annoyed.
Especially tonight.

CHARLIE
Yeah.

LISA
It’s okay to be sad. Now what
Do you say we get trashed and
Fuck like rabbits?

CHARLIE
Is that a official prescription,
Nurse?

LISA
I find it works wonders on a
Poopy mood.

CHARLIE
Well, it WOULD take my mind off
The past.

LISA
Exactly. Too much negativity is
Bad for your health.

CHARLIE
Right. And there is saving the
Planet to consider.

LISA
See, we’re just being responsible.

Lisa fills his glass. Charlie smiles, and wistfully looks around the room.

CHARLIE
You know, it’s funny, but moving
Back into this old house has brought
Back some memories of the past I
Forgot I even had.

LISA
Do they involve pleasuring your
Wife all night long, or at least
An hour or so.

CHARLIE
No, darling. But they are of me
And my brother actually playing.

LISA
Really?
(melodramatically shocked)
So there ARE happy memories?

14. FLASHBACK

As Charlie scans the room we see intercut flashes from the past as Young Charlie is chased by Jimmy. There’s also roughhousing, usually with Young Charlie on the receiving end.

15. END FLASHBACK

CHARLIE
Well, mostly of cops and robbers.
I seem to recall I was either always
The cop who was thwarted by the
Brilliant, ruthless robber, or I was
The hapless robber beaten down by the
Dirty Cop with a penchant for excessive force.

LISA
(laughing)
That’s hilarious.

CHARLIE
It was mean.

LISA
(playfully)
Whatever. Your brother sounds cool.

CHARLIE
Jesus. Now I know where Zoey gets
Her sass.

Lisa laughs again.

CHARLIE
Actually, I do remember him protecting
Me from bullies on several occasions.
And taking the fall for me when I was
In trouble. I guess he wasn’t so bad.
He was always there to help
Me when I was scared.
